John Daley ReportingPolitical foes divided over the controversial Legacy Highway are uniting in favor of improvements in transit. The goal is new transportation links between Salt Lake and its neighbors to the north.

Mayor Rocky Anderson and leaders of Davis County, bitter opponents on Legacy Highway, now are joining forces on transit. Just what form it might take isn't clear. It might be light rail; it might be improved bus service; it might be both.

Rocky Anderson, Salt Lake City Mayor: "It's nice to have this little love-fest. We have our differences on Legacy Highway. I think it's really clear that over the long term we have to take a transit first approach."

Joe Johnson, Bountiful Mayor: "I think if you can partner on a good project, then partner! Sometimes you just gotta put things on the shelf for a minute and come together on what you can come together with and disagree on what you disagree with."

Dave Connors, Farmington Mayor: "I don't think any of us have any personal issues with Rocky. We disagree with each other on Legacy Highway, but we've always been in agreement on the transit options."

Wilf Summerkorn, Davis County Economic Development: "That survey that I mentioned showed 70% in favor of Legacy and 70% in favor of transit, points out the need to do all we can to improve transportation in Davis County."

The feasibility study is expected to take roughly nine months. It's expected to take at least a decade before transit between Salt Lake and Davis County is up and running.
