SOUTH OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- A former daycare operator accused of having sexual intercourse with a 4-year-old girl has been charged with 12 counts of rape of a child, all first-degree felonies.
Mark Riley Nielson, 42, of South Ogden, was charged Thursday in 2nd District Court. Charging documents allege he had sexual intercourse with the girl 12 to 14 times between April and August at his home.
A court hearing was set for 2 p.m. on Sept. 16 before Judge Pamela Heffernan to decide whether a preliminary hearing is necessary.
Nielson operated a small day care out of his home several years ago. Police are unaware if any of those children were victims.
Police executed a search warrant at Nielson's home and located hundreds, if not thousands, of pornographic images, many suspected to be of children, said South Ogden Police Detective Todd Hardman.
Based on the cyberphotos, more charges may follow, Hardman said.
