Sandra Yi ReportingThe caretakers of a Utah man dying of cancer are trying to fulfill his last wish that is to reunite him with his estranged daughter.

Dave Politano has only memories of his daughter, Dawn Marie. Once close, the two had a falling out six years ago.

Dave Politano, Looking for his Daughter: "Last time we talked on the phone we had a really bad confrontation and I said some really cruel, bad things which I regret."

Politano has been looking for his 29-year old daughter who is his only living relative. Last he heard she was living in New Jersey and studying to be a teacher. So far his attempts have only led to dead ends.

Dave Politano: "I made all kinds of inquiries and couldn't get to first base."

His search though has recently intensified as Politano found out two weeks ago, he has terminal stomach cancer. Doctors say at best, he has only three months to live.

Dave Politano: "Since I'm terminally ill and I don't have too much time left, I wanted to at least have a little peace of mind and apologize and tell her how sorry I am."

Since Politano learned he has cancer, he has been staying at a salt lake health care center. In the past week the staff there, especially his social worker, have taken up the cause to try and fulfill his dying wish.

Cadie Andrew, Social Worker: "If she takes the opportunity to find him and come and see him before he dies, that's her choice. But I'd hate for her to someday in the future to decide to come looking for him and it's too late."

So far, the search is proving to be difficult. But Politano isn't giving up hope; his last days will be with his daughter. Politano doesn't even have a picture of his daughter. He says he lost them, during his travels.
