(Provo-AP) -- If you're being booked on criminal charges in Utah County, you'd better have 10 bucks on you.

That's if a new proposal's passed.

The Utah County Commission will vote today on a new proposal that imposes a 10 dollar inmate processing fee to those being booked into the Utah County jail.

County commissioners want suspects to foot part of the bill for their incarceration and give tax payers a break.

The commission considered forcing cities to pay a booking fee over the summer because officers were booking suspects for misdemeanors when they could have cited them instead.

The county jail was built to house 300 inmates, but that number's since grown to 780.
