ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) -- Police found 250 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of a Pennsylvania man's car after a chase on Interstate 15.

Ralph G. Lyle was stopped for a traffic offense Friday, but he hit the gas when a Washington County deputy approached the car, Lt. Jake Adams said.

Authorities disabled the car by placing spikes on the road. Lyle, 48, tried to flee but was tackled by officers, Adams said.

The drugs, the largest seizure by the sheriff's office, have an estimated value of $500,000, he said.

Lyle, of Sligo, Pa., was arrested on drug charges and other alleged offenses tied to the chase, Adams said. His car had a Nebraska license plate.
