(KSL News) -- A Utah County judge today ordered a Springville couple to stand trial on charges they killed their adopted daughter by forcing her to drink too much water.

Richard and Jennette Killpack are accused of forcing their adopted daughter Kassandra to drink water as a form of punishment. The four-year old girl later died from water intoxication.

The Killpacks insist they were using a form of therapy to help the girl overcome serious behavior problems.

The Killpacks, however will not face a child abuse charge that accused them of causing emotional distress with another daughter. The judge dismissed that count, citing lack of evidence.

The Killpacks will be back in court at the end of the month.
