DRAPER, Utah (AP) -- A lockdown on one housing unit at the Utah State Prison was expected to last through the weekend following two gang fights.

The 144 inmates in the Oquirrh 4 unit were restricted to their cells following fights Tuesday and Wednesday to end any further escalation.

The inmates, suspected gang members, were out of their cells but still confined to the housing unit when the fights broke out, Utah Department of Corrections spokesman Jack Ford said. About a dozen people were involved, and a few had minor injuries.

Visitation has been prohibited, Ford said.

"We'll consider opening it to visiting next week," he said of the lockdown.

The cause of the fights remains under investigation.
