(KSL News) Parents in Mapleton were extra cautious as they dropped their children off at school Friday morning.

Most of them had heard the news that a suspect had been arrested in Thursday's kidnapping of a five-year-old boy, but weren't taking any chances.

Some seemed to give their little ones an extra hug today.

Greg Shields/ Mapleton Parent: "You wouldn't think that would happen in a neighborhood like this. You can never be too careful. You never know."

Curtis Pendleton/ Mapleton Parent: "It's a frightening thing to live in a society where you have to scrutinize every time a child walks out the door."

Police say the best thing is to remember there's strength in numbers, so never let your children walk all alone.

If they do see something suspiscious, tell them to go to a public place where there are other people around and report what's going on.
