87 hogs were on the truck as it headed east into Silver Creek Canyon near Park City early this morning.

The driver fell asleep at the wheel and hit a concrete median. The rig overturned, sending animals all over the roadway.

Trooper Doug Devenish, UHP: "It rolled onto its side and as it rolled the trailer split open spilling several of the animals out, and they were killed due to the impact."

The interstate was completely shut down for five hours and traffic was re-routed while the mess was cleared.

Local ranchers volunteered to help round up the hogs. About ten other injured hogs had to be put down. The driver and his passenger were not hurt.
