OREM -- Children in Orem welcomed a special guest Friday morning at the University Mall.
Santa Claus gave the reindeer a break and instead flew in on Chopper 5 around 10 a.m. Thousands gathered in the parking lot to see Father Christmas himself make his grand entrance.
Kids got to decorate cookies and get their faces painted to be ready for Santa. Friday was also the first day of the Giving Tree.
The tree is decorated with ornaments representing people in the community who need some extra help during the holidays.
