PAROWAN, Utah (AP) -- A truck driver leaped from his moving vehicle on Interstate 15 after smoke and flames started filling the cab.
Andrzej Gugnacki told Utah Highway Patrol troopers that he tried to slow the truck down as much as possible while he stepped out onto the running boards to make his escape from the fire while his tractor-trailer was northbound in I-15 just south of Parowan on Thursday.
"As soon as the truck was moving slow enough (the driver) pulled the steering wheel to the right and jumped from the moving semi," Trooper Brian Bairett said.
Gugnacki was taken to Valley View Medical Center and was treated for second and third degree burns to his right arm and face.
The Parowan Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire before it spread to the trailer, which was hauling electronics.
The cause of the fire was not known.
