Sandra Yi ReportingA deadly accident on Interstate 80 in the Salt Lake Valley this evening.
The accident happened about 4:00 on I-80 near 80th west. There were two cars involved in the crash. Medical crews and investigators are on scene tonight trying to find the cause of the accident.

Two victims were killed in one car, both instantly. We’re told the dark car was traveling east on I-80 when, for some unknown reason, it crossed the median hitting the west-bound white car head-on at approximately 80 miles per hour.
Three people were killed, the two in the dark car and a 76-year old Salt Lake City woman who was a passenger in the white car. Two other women were also in the white car. They were injured and were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Judy Helt, Witness: “They hit head-on. They both spun around. Debris started flying. There was smoke coming from the vehicles.”
Sgt. Ten Tingey, Utah Highway Patrol: “Right now we’re not sure if speed is a factor. Like we said, we’re just trying to piece all that together. We’re just in the preliminary stages with everything getting sorted out here.
Cars going west on I-80 are being diverted at 5600 W. The road is expected to be open around 6:30.
