Shelley Osterloh reporting For years, many conventional medical doctors have been at odds with those who promise alternative health care --- things like chiropractic care, herbal supplements or acupunture.

But now a few medical care providers from varying backgrounds are teaming up to give patients new options for health care.

Calvin Frampton is a Utah county Real Estate broker who suffers with stomach problems.

Greg Kofford -- a chiropractor -- is testing his energy fields to determine where there may be blockages.

Greg Kofford, D.C. Chiropractor: "THEN WHAT WE CAN DO IS SPECIFICALLY BALANCE CERTAIN VITAMINS OR HOMEOPATHICS THAT ARE SPECIFIC TO YOUR BODY.. WHATEVER IS NEEDED"

Frampton says his conventional doctor prescribed a medication that helped for a while but caused other problems.

Calvin Frampton: I'D GO IN FOR A MINUTE AND HALF .. AND THEY'D BE DONE. THEY'D GIVE ME SOME PRESCRIPTIONS TO TREAT THE SYMPTOMS AND THAT WAS THE END OF IT. (EDIT) I WANT TO WORK ON THE PREVENTION, I WANT TO KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON WITH MY HEALTH."

He has come to the Total Health Institute in Lindon --- a unique health clinic that offers both conventional and alternative medical care.

It is the creation of Dr. Michael Cutler -- a board certified family physician who says, conventional medicine is great at treating illness but does little to promote health.

Michael Cutler, M.D. Medical Dir. Total Health Institute "OUR COUNTRY GOOD AT KEEPING PEOPLE ALIVE WITH MEDICATION.. USING SURGERIES TO CORRECT THE ILLNESSES THAT ARISE... HOWEVER WHAT WE ARE FINDING IS THAT FEW PEOPLE KNOW WHAT DRIVES THEM TO HEALTH "

The Institute focuses health education and finding the cause of illness. Here a patient may receive conventional medical treatment like x-rays, minor surgery and standard lab tests.... along with alternative treatment like IV chelation, acupuncture and other oriental medicine, emotional release and magnetic therapy, nutrition counseling and diet supplements.

Greg Kofford, D.C. Chiropractor: " WE ARE ALL TRYING TO WORK TOGETHER FOR THE CARE OF THE PATIENT"

Patients who come to the Total Health Institute, say they like the holistic approach to health care -- one that doesn't pit conventional against alternative.. but integrates both.

But those who seek a combination of conventional and alternative health care may struggle to pay for both.... since most insurance companies only pay for conventional care.

Dr. Cutler has developed a health care plan for patients to choose both.
