A frightening adventure for a five year old boy after he he fell through the ice on a pond in West Valley City.
Neighbors came to the rescue just in time. And, the boy's parents are relieved and grateful their son will be okay.
Jacob Tanner is recovering at Primary Children's Hospital after a terrifying day for the five year old and his parents.
The icy pond was a temptation two little boys couldn't resist. But the ice just wasn't thick enough this morning when the boys tried to cross.
Jacob Tanner/Rescued: "MY FRIEND, HE STOMPED, THEN THE ICE BROKE AND I WAS SINKING."
plunged into the icy water...
Jacob Tanner: "I WAS TRYING TO SWIM OUT, BUT THE WATER, IT WAS PUSHING ME BACK."
Jacob's friend was yelling 'paddle, paddle'...two neighbors heard the screaming and jumped in after the boy.
Cathy Manning/Rescuer: I KIND OF TURNED HIM AROUND AND LIFTED HIS HEAD ABOVE THE WATER AND HE JUST FELT REALLY STIFF AND HIS EYES WERE OPEN AND HE WAS BREATHING, BUT HE LOOKED LIKE HE WAS IN SHOCK."
Jacob's parents were looking for their son---when they heard the commotion.
Tony Knight, Jacob's Father: "HE SAID A COUPLE OF THINGS TO ME RIGHT WHEN I PULLED HIM OUT, BUT, HE SAID, DADDY I'M COLD."
Jamie Knight/Jacob's Mother: "I JUST SAW HIM THERE AND JUST GRABBED HIM AND I LOVE HIM SO MUCH AND THANK GOD HE'S HERE. "
The five year old is spending the night in the hospital but he's expected to be just fine ---- in fact, the tales of what happened while Jacob was in the pond are quickly getting taller--and taller.
Jacob Tanner: "I WAS JUST LOOKING UNDER THE WATER. WHAT WAS IN THE WATER? IT WAS A PIRAHNA. SO I KICKED IT."
Jacob Tanner: "CAUSE I KICKED IT , CAUSE IT WAS IT WAS TRYING TO BITE ME THEN IT WENT BACK DOWN BECAUSE IT WAS SCARED OF ME."
Jacob Tanner: " I WENT LIKE THIS, 'HI FISH', YOU MIGHT KICK BUTT AND I KICKED IT. RIGHT IN THE EYEBALL, AND IT WAS GOING LIKE THIS BLAH BLAH BLAH
Jamie and Tony Knight say they obviously have a lot to be thankful for tomorrow---and as for Christmas---Jamie Knight says she already got the best present she could ask for ---her son Jacob.
