(KSL News) -- Fire destroyed a house and everything inside it, this morning in Sandy.
A woman smelled smoke in her basement and discovered flames in the laundry room. She got out of the house with her nine-year old son.

Fire crews arrived to find the place engulfed in flame, and a second alarm brought more than 35 firefighters.
Capt. Fitzgerald Petersen, Salt Lake County Fire Dept.: "It was quickly apparent that the fire had gone form the basement to other levels of the structure. So we had fire on all three levels."
Matthew White, Homeowner's Brother: "What matters most is that the kids are safe, so we'll be okay."

The house is a total loss and the family lost all its possessions in the fire.
Investigators think the fire started in a utility room.
