Richard Piatt ReportingExpect a busy night in downtown Salt Lake City tonight, and expect all the things that go along with it, including long waits at restaurants and parking challenges.

Almost every big venue has something going on tonight. That includes the Delta Center, Abravenel Hall and the LDS Conference Center. Usually we're doing stories on how deserted downtown is, but tonight it's the exact opposite.

The free parking is also encouraging shoppers downtown at the Gateway. And lots of people are planning to come downtown for the lights as well. Busy? You bet. Busy enough that you might want to consider taking TRAX instead of driving.

Brad Baird, Downtown Alliance: "They should expect it's going to be more challenge than usual downtown. So they need to plan on coming downtown a little earlier, and they should plan on taking public transportation, and TRAX is a great way to do that."

UTA has extra trains running until 1 a.m. But you should still expect it's going to be crazy downtown. The biggest trouble spots will be Main Street, West Temple and North and South Temple.
