There is history between Hurricane and Juan Diego. Last year these two teams met in the 3A state championship game, a game that came down to the final play. With: 50 seconds left in the game, the Tigers scored a touchdown to tie the game at 18 and it looked like the game was headed to overtime. But with less than 20 seconds left to play, junior tailback Tana Vea took a screen pass and ran 55 yards deep into Hurricane territory to set up a last second field goal attempt. After missing two extra point attempts earlier in the game, Jaron Bentrude stepped onto the field and calmly nailed a 23-yard field goal giving Juan Diego the state title. Now the Soaring Eagle are back and so is running back Tana Vea who can't wait for another chance to defend their crown.

"This has been our goal and I'm just proud we have another opportunity to do it again." He said after a semifinal win over Wasatch.

Juan Diego has been dominant in 3A once again this season. They haven't lost to a Utah team since the 2007 quarterfinals. They also boast a 24-6 win over 4A finalist Springville. Their defense gives up just 8 points a game while the offense is averaging 36 points per game. They suffered a huge blow on both sides of the ball when star player Keegan Anderson broke his leg against Wasatch. The Soaring Eagle will have to find a way to overcome his loss in their quest for another title.

Hurricane returns to the title game and they are a team on a mission.

"I want to take revenge to them and show them we're the state champs this year." Said Tigers running back Jarom Healy.

They have been waiting for this moment ever since that crushing defeat last November. The Tigers have never won a state championship and this may be the best all-around team in school history. They have three talented running backs in Robert Reeve, Jarom Healy, and Jacob Pugh, along with quarterback Tim Long who all can do damage on the ground. The defense has been dominant giving up just 16 points a game. Like their opponent, the Tigers have also had success against 4A competition beating Snow Canyon, Pine View and 4A semifinalist Dixie 42-24.

This rematch could once again come down to the very last play.
