SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Flu cases in Utah have topped 5,300, according to figures released by state health officials Tuesday.

The total of 5,313 cases is about 750 more than last week. Nearly 190 of those reported with the flu were hospitalized. There were no new reported deaths.

Seven people have died from influenza-related illnesses this flu season so far. One of them is a pediatric patient, and six are adults.

Health officials say the number of flu cases represents only a small percentage of the number of people who have influenza. That's because not everyone who has the flu visits a doctor for treatment, meaning the cases go unreported.
