(St. George-AP) -- Eight youths are being sheltered in private homes after fleeing the polygamous community of Colorado City, Arizona.
Child-abuse advocate Flora Jessop says some of them left in pairs and others fled alone Saturday night after the recent shake-up in the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
This comes after two 16-year old girls also fled the community fearing they'd be forced to marry older men. And Jessop expects there to be more runaways.
Last week, the prophet excommunicated at least 20 men from the F-L-D-S Church, including the mayor of Colorado City.
About 10-thousand residents live in the twin polygamous cities of Colorado City, Arizona and Hildale, Utah.
