(Salt Lake City-AP) -- There's another name in the crowd of Republicans running for Utah governor.

Local businessman Fred Lampropoulos formally announced his candidacy today.

The 54-year-old founder and head of Merit Medical Systems, Incorporated says his platform is reduced spending, education and creating more jobs.

Lampropoulos spent more than one (m) million dollars in radio and television ads to boost his name identification. But the ads have never mentioned his political aspirations.

Other names in the Republican ring are former U-S Representative Jim Hansen, Former U-S Ambassador Jon Huntsman Junior, House Speaker Marty Stephens among others. Utah Governor Olene Walker has not yet said if she'll seek the post in November.
