(St. George-AP) -- The Utah Supreme Court has denied a motion by convicted bigamist Rodney Holm requesting a release from jail until an appeal to his conviction can be heard.
Holm was convicted last year on charges of bigamy and unlawful sex with a minor 16 or 17 years old. He was sentenced to a year in Purgatory Correctional Facility in Hurricane. He is allowed work release privileges and travels to his job in Colorado City each weekday. Holm must return to the jail each night and spend weekends there.
Holm, a former police officer in Colorado City, Ariz. and Hildale, Utah, was decertified following his conviction. He is a member of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, which preaches polygamy as a central tenet.
