(KSL News) -- Jared "The Subway Guy," is in Utah promoting health and nutrition in schools.

This afternoon, children at William Penn Elementary stared in disbelief at the size of Jared's old pants. Jared explained how his former size stopped him from simple tasks like going to the movies, riding in airplanes, and sitting in the backseat of cars because he couldn't fit.

Jared Fogle--" I actually weighed 425 pounds at one point, so I know more than anything what it's like to be a heavy kid growing up. My weight started happening in third or fourth grade, so it's really, really important to get the message out now about healthier eating, about nutrition, about exercise."

William Penn Elementary School is the first school in Utah to take part in Subway's "Food Feud" campaign. Elementary schools in 15 districts all over Utah will participate in the assemblies, which run through the first week of March.
