CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) -- After a kindergarten-aged boy told his teacher that his mother and father sniff white powder off a mirror, the parents were arrested and the boy and a younger sibling were taken into protective custody by the state.
Bryan Albert Nicholas, 36, and Crystal Ann Nicholas, 23, of Cedar City were charged with child abuse and possession of amphetamines, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
The two children were taken into the custody by the state Department of Child and Family Services, Police Detective Sgt. Jerry Womack said.
"There are shelter hearings that will determine if the kids can be safe with the parents or if they will be placed in foster care," Womack said.
Womack said when the boy told his East Elementary School teacher about the alleged drug use, DCFS was notified.
Police and DCFS representatives went to the parents' home and allegedly found evidence of drug use.
The parents were booked into the Iron County Jail on $12,000 bail. Crystal Nicholas was released on bail on Saturday but Bryan Nicholas remained in jail.
