Sam Penrod ReportingLast month bank robbers used an elaborate plan and explosive devices to divert police attention while they robbed an Orem bank. Tonight, Orem Police say the three men responsible are behind bars.
The men are suspects in several violent robberies in Utah and Colorado. All of the suspects are from Utah County.
Detective say they were already looking for the men, but last night one of them was in fight and ended up talking to police, which by this afternoon led to the arrest of all three suspects.
It was a Friday afternoon in February when a strange chain of events happened in a 20 minute period in Orem. First a bomb threat was called into the parking lot of the Orem Police Station. It turned out to be a real bomb.
Minutes later another bomb threat was called into a Wells Fargo bank. And moments later, two armed men stormed into a Far West bank on the other side of town, getting violent with customers.
The men are also suspected of robbing a bank just last Friday in Herriman. They are also believed to have robbed two banks in Colorado in January.
Police have recovered evidence, including money and weapons they say was part of the robberies. Detectives say Brian Tucker organized the robberies, Troy Hansen and Steven Bingham are believed to have carried them out.
Two of the men worked together in construction and while they have rap sheets, until now it was relatively minor compared now to federal armed robbery charges they will face, which will be enhanced because a weapon was used and fired in the Orem robbery.
