(Ogden-AP) -- A water main break forces Ogden High School to close for the day and leaves hundreds of homes without water.

The break happened around 9:00 last night.

Ogden city water officials say an 18-inch water main about 18 feet long broke, leaving thousands without water.

Most of the service was restored by last night, but about 300 homes are still without water. That includes Ogden High School which is closed for today while crews work to replace the section of pipe that broke.

Officials say they hope to have water restored to residents and the high school by this afternoon.
