(KSL News) Crews work to contain an early morning fire in the Avenues.
Salt Lake fire officials say they responded to calls of the blaze on First Avenue shortly after 4:00 this morning.
Firefighters described heavy smoke coming from the outside of the home with flames on the second and third floors.
The home is a historical landmark, and its age made the blaze harder to fight.
Dennis McKone/ Salt Lake City Fire Dept.: "It was crawling up the walls. It was spreading vertically around the floors. It took us a little while to get under control."
Everyone got out of the home safely. Damage is estimated at $100,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
