Sandra Yi ReportingDeployment isn't getting in the way of one Utah Soldier's political plans. Jim Bischoff is running for Utah County Commissioner. Right now he's now part of a different campaign, half a world away, but his plans for politics aren't on hold.
Alesia Bischoff, Wife: "Running for public office has always been in the future."
Her husband's passion is politics, but his patriotism still comes first.
Alesia Bischoff: "He would agree with me that yes, he really needed to do this."
Jim Bischoff is a Utah National Guardsman with the joint special operations task force. He volunteered for a four-month mission in Afghanistan.
Now his wife Alesia is on a mission of her own, to get Jim elected to the Utah County Commission. Alesia is not just the candidate's wife. She's become the candidate as well, for now. Tonight is her first debate at Lakeridge Junior High School in Orem. Jim emailed his talking points.
Alesia Bischoff: "We were just hoping that his candidacy, being gone, would not get laughed out of the stage."
Alesia wants to see Jim's political dream come true. Still, she says defeat won't be a tough blow as long as her husband returns home safe.
Alesia Bischoff: "I'd like to have him home first. That would be my goal."
Bischoff is expected to return home in August. He's one of four Republican candidates vying for the County Commission seat, vacated by Gary Herbert, who is running for Governor.
