(Washington-AP) -- Utah's air makes the grade.

The Environmental Protection Agency was under a court order to release a list today of the states that don't meet air quality standards.

The list names 475 counties in 31 states that are below standard, and most of those are in California and the Eastern part of the country.

But Utah is one of 19 states which has all their counties in compliance with air quality standards.

The EPA has given the states who don't meet the standards three years to develop new pollution controls. E-P-A officials say the states may have to impose new controls on industrial plants, restrict transportation and require tougher vehicle inspection programs to clean up their air. Some counties also may have to require the use of special, cleaner-burning gasoline.
