RIVERDALE, Utah (AP) -- A 2-year-old boy died Monday one day after being discovered floating in a relative's swimming pool.

Boston Palmer died about 6:15 a.m. Monday at the Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City, said Lt. Ansley Paige of the Riverdale Police Department.

The boy's parents, Dana and Gary Palmer of Syracuse, noticed their son was missing as they were leaving a family gathering at his uncle's home just before 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Dana Palmer found the toddler floating in the pool in about three feet of water, Paige said. The yard where the pool was located was fenced, but the gate was open.

Police estimated Palmer had been in the water between two and five minutes, she said.

The boy's father performed CPR until the child began breathing, Paige said. Paramedics took him to Ogden Regional Medical Center, but he was later flown to Primary Children's Medical Center in critical condition.
