(Provo-AP) -- About 17-thousand invitations went out, but only 15 people took the bait for an open house on the endangered June sucker native to Utah Lake.

Officials with the June Sucker Recovery Implementation Program hoped the meeting would help inform residents around Utah Lake about the project.

In conjunction with yesterday's open house, the program released 25-thousand hatchery-raised June sucker fish into the lake.

Since 1995, about nine-thousand of the fish have been stocked in the lake. But few survived, and there were only about 450 adult wild June suckers left in the lake before yesterday's release.

The program's planning another meeting for May 12, where they hope at least a few hundred residents will attend.
