(Zion National Park-AP) -- A sixth year of drought is spelling out extreme fire danger for Zion National Park this summer.
Fire managers say the drought combined with prescribed burns being scrubbed over the past year means the park is hitting new highs in terms of fire danger.
The park planned to burn 44-hundred acres along the east boundary of the park this spring, but only 40 acres have been burned so far. Fire managers say the burn conditions have to be just right before they do a prescribed burn.
Summer fire crews are already in place at Zion. Right now, they're completing refresher training and once that's done, they'll work on fuels treatment and do educational work with the public about fire danger.
