(KSL News) -- One of Utah's premier kiteboarders is in a coma.
Derik Sayers is the only instructor in Utah certified to teach the sport that uses big kites and wakeboards.
Last week Sayers had just taken off from Utah Lake's south beach when strong winds slammed him into the ground.
When friends reached him, he was unconcious.
Sayers's friends say he's a real safety advocate and helmets are standard equipment for students at his kiteboarding classes.
