(Salt Lake City-AP) -- Some pro-gun groups are urged legislators to dump the firearms instruction requirement for obtaining a concealed-weapons permit.
They told the Legislature's Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Committee yesterday that there is no evidence that training and other regulations for permit holders prevent mishaps or misuse of a firearm.
Scott Engen of Gun Owners of Utah handling a firearm is not much more complicated than using a stapler.
Senator Paula Julander of Salt Lake City said the consequences of handling those two instruments don't even compare.
