CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) -- Investigators on Monday were probing the cause of a small plane crash near Evanston that killed two people and a dog, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
The Piper PA-30 crashed Sunday night on its final approach to the Evanston-Uinta County Burns Field, FAA spokesman Allen Kenitzer said.
"It apparently crashed during unknown circumstances," he said.
Everyone on board, including a dog, was pronounced dead. Identities were being withheld pending notification of family, although an FAA Web site listed the plane's registered owner as an Evanston man.
Uinta County sheriff's Lt. Dave Evins would not confirm any fatalities or provide details on the crash until federal investigators arrived.
David Bowling, a regional National Transportation Safety Board director, was listed as the lead investigator, according to FAA reports.
County Coroner Greg Crandall did not immediately return a call seeking comment. Airport officials declined comment.
According to the FAA, the 40-year-old, multiengine plane was flying from Heber City, Utah, to Evanston -- about an 80-mile trek.
"They were flying high afar," Kenitzer said. "I don't know what the weather was like."
Weather reports indicated overcast skies, light wind and temperatures in the 30s around the time of the crash.
