(Salt Lake City-AP) -- Dozens of soldiers in the 1457th Engineer Battalion are being recognized for their service in Iraq.
Spanish Fork-based Charlie Company was awarded the Itschner Award for being the best National Guard engineering company nationwide.
The unit's commander accepted the award last month in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma on his way back from Iraq.
The Charlie Company is made up of about 90 soldiers who were deployed for about a year. The company was instrumental in warding off an attack on the Russian Embassy and also assisted in rescue operations after the bombing of the United Nations building.
The award is presented each year to the most outstanding engineer company from the active Army, Army Reserves and National Guard.
