(Elko-AP) -- A Sparks girl who had been the target of a search since she disappeared on a hike in the Ruby Mountains on Saturday apparently fell off a cliff to her death.
Elko County Sheriff Neil Harris says a search party found the body of eleven-year-old Kathleen Galindo this morning.
The girl had been reported missing in Lamoille Canyon on Saturday where she had been camping about 20 miles east of Reno with her parents, Fred and Larene Barrett, and a nine-year-old sister.
Harris says she appears to have died from a major head injury. She apparently fell about 75 feet.
The sheriff says more than a dozen family members had traveled from the Reno-Sparks area to assist in the search over the weekend. But none of them was involved in the direct recovery of the body.
