(Ogden-AP) -- The lights are back on today for about 8,400 Utah Power customers who lost power last night.

The outage happened around 8:30 p.m.

Utah Power spokeswoman Margaret Kessler says a magpie landed on a piece of equipment inside an Ogden substation which shorted the circuits and caused a line to come down.

Kessler says most of the customers had their power restored before midnight and about a thousand of them were restored just after 2 a.m.
