(Cedar City-AP) -- A new trial date is set for Iron County Sheriff David "Dude" Benson.

A judge last week vacated the trial, meaning he would not be hearing it because there were other cases with higher priority.

It was scheduled to begin July 12 and a new judge was found to hear it, but the defense had a scheduling conflict. The trial is now scheduled for the week of August 30th.

Jury selection will begin August 27th. A pre-trial hearing will go as scheduled July sixth.

Benson is charged with obstruction of justice, witness tampering, misuse of public money and theft. He also faces charges of destroying or mutilating public records.

Benson says he's excited that the trial can begin before much longer.
