(West Jordan-AP) -- Police in West Jordan say family members and religious leaders are praying for a missing U-S Marine who may have been kidnapped by a militant group in Iraq.
An Arab satellite television network broadcast videotape of Wassef Ali Hassoun, (wah-SEF' ah-LEE' hah-SAHN'), purportedly taken hostage by a militant group which has threatened to behead him if the U-S military does not release all prisoners in Iraq.
U-S officials in Iraq say Hassoun has been missing for nearly a week, but will not confirm whether he is being held hostage.
West Jordan Police Captain Gary Cox says Hassoun's family members are together and religious leaders in the community are helping out. Last night, Hassoun's family released a statement through a family friend praying and pleading for his safe release.
