HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) -- The Tigard man linked to the disappearance of a 19-year-old Brigham Young University student is facing child pornography charges in Washington County.
Sung Koo Kim, 30, was arraigned Thursday on 16 counts of encouraging child sexual abuse.
Kim has been charged with stealing thousands of pairs of women's underwear from college dormitories in three other Oregon counties, and has pleaded innocent.
On Thursday, a Washington County Circuit Court judge set bail at $1 million after Jeff Lesowski, the deputy district attorney, argued that Kim was an "extreme public safety risk."
Kim is being held in Multnomah County on $10 million bail. He also faces $4 million bail in Yamhill County and $100,000 bail in Benton County.
According to an affidavit filed by Portland police two weeks ago, a search of Kim's computer revealed 40,000 pictures and about 4,000 videos of women being tortured and raped, as well as a document that describes the rape, torture and mutilation of a woman.
Lesowski said the vast majority of the pornographic images were of adults, but some depicted children.
Police and prosecutors have named Kim as a suspect in the disappearance of BYU student Brooke Wilberger, who vanished from a Corvallis apartment complex on May 24.
