(Page, Arizona-AP) -- Fire restrictions are being imposed at Lake Powell and elsewhere in the Glen Canyon Recreation Area, effective at midnight tonight.

Open fires will be banned except within approved fire pits and grills in developed campgrounds, picnic areas, and permanently improved places of habitation.

They'll also be allowed in the primitive camping areas of Lone Rock and Stanton Creek, and within 100 feet of Lake Powell's shoreline.

Devices fueled by propane or liquid petroleum gas are permitted in all locations.

Smoking essentially will be restricted to enclosed vehicles and developed recreation sites.
