OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- State officials are commissioning a study of a pipeline route for water that would be pumped out of northern Utah's Bear River.

The Bear River has long been eyed as a possible source of potable water for burgeoning communities along the Wasatch Front.

The state's Division of Water Resources says it's taking a preliminary look at alternate pipeline routes.

Construction is more than 15 years away. The project also would require one or more dams.
