(KSL News) -- Utah Marine, Wassef Ali Hassoun, arrived at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina today where he will continue the military's repatriation process.
Corporal Hassoun had been at a military base in Virginia undergoing an intensive evaluation. Yesterday he spoke publicly for the first time about his ordeal.
Hassoun insisted he was kidnapped from his Marine base Iraq and held captive for 19 days. NBC News has learned that Hassoun told military officials he was released to a sympathetic Muslim group unfriendly toward the U.S. And that group took him into Lebanon.
But military investigators say they still have serious questions about Hassoun's story.
Lt. Col. Dave LaPan, U.S. Marines: "We're not in the position at this point to make a judgement either way."
Military investigators who've been gathering evidence into Hassoun's strange disappearance have yet to talk to him directly.
But members of the military repatriation team have reportedly said Hassoun's story is believable.
