ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) -- A 17-year-old boy has drowned while swimming with friends at Sand Hollow Reservoir.

The boy, whose name has not yet been released, was swimming toward a rock in the middle of the reservoir Wednesday evening when his friends noticed he was struggling, Washington County sheriff's Chief Deputy Rob Tersigni said.

At first, his friends thought he was kidding around, Tersigni said. They swam out to help but were unable to keep the boy above water.

Members of the Washington County and Hildale dive teams recovered the body.
