(KSL News) -- A 17-year old hiker had a frightening experience this afternoon after falling 30 feet from Donut Falls in Big Cottonwood Canyon. Officials say the young man was hiking with his family when he fell off the rocks.

Search and Rescue crews were called in to help get him down off the falls. He was then transported to the hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.

Police say this area brings lots of casual hikers, but they must remember to use the same safety precautions they would anywhere else.
