(KSL News) Salt Lake police say a late night stabbing may have been due to a drug deal gone bad.

Police say the 21-year-old victim was arguing with another man on the corner of 4th South and 5th East last night.

Witnesses told investigators the suspect stabbed the victim in the stomach.

Lt. Robert Linton/ Salt Lake City Police Dept.: "Any time you have that it's usually some kind of an argument over drugs and money."

The victim made his way to an apartment building at 500 East where he called for help from a payphone outside a local market.

He was taken to LDS Hospital in critical condition. The suspect is still on the loose this morning.
