Sam Penrod reporting A dump truck struck a Utah County girl this morning and the accident has left her in critical condition.

13-year-old Hit By Dump Truck

The 13-year-old was riding her bike with a friend along the Highland Highway, near Lone Peak High School, when the ten wheel dump truck hit her.

Police say it appears the girls were riding on the left side of the road so they could see the oncoming traffic. But the girl somehow drifted into the path of the truck.

Chief Kip Botkin, Alpine-Highland Police Department: "She may have had a pet with her and may have only been riding with one hand. We're waiting to talk to her friend. She is understandably shaken up and so we are waiting to get a statement."
