BRYCE CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Utah (AP) -- A European man killed by lightning while hiking in Bryce Canyon National Park is identified as Jan Tillema of the Netherlands.

The 58-year-old man was killed last week while hiking with three companions on the Bristlecone Loop near the south end of the park.

A spokeswoman says the day was overcast and there hadn't been any lightning, but about two p.m., a bolt flashed and killed the man instantly.

The others were not hurt.
