(KSL News) -- Two men are behind bars in Tooele County for their involvement in an alleged scheme to kill one of the men's ex-wife.

Police believe Donald Millard hired his friend David Brinkerhoff to kill his ex-wife,Susan Hyatt.

Hyatt claims Brinkerhoff came to her house looking for her ex-husband. She says when she offered Brinkerhoff her cell phone to call Millard, he attacked her and tried to stab her. But she got away.

Police say there is reasonable suspicion to believe Millard is involved in the attack. But Millard's uncle insists he is a non-violent person.

Steve Wiseman, Donald Millard's Uncle: "It's totally out of character for Don to even think about doing something like this. If he's got a problem with his ex-wife, that's one thing. But he would never do anything to harm her or to injure those kids."

Police say Millard was behind about $21,000 in child support payments. And they say Brinkerhoff may have been the third person Millard tried to hire to kill his ex-wife.
