ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) -- A suspect is dead after being shot by police in St. George.

Police spokesman Craig Harding says police began pursuing the man last night who had a passenger in his vehicle with an outstanding warrant. The man led police on a chase that ended at a dead-end street, where he took off on foot.

Police say he pulled out a gun and officers shot him.

The suspect was taken to the hospital where he later died. His identity has not yet been released.

The man with the outstanding warrant was taken into custody.

The officers involved in last night's shooting will be placed on paid administrative leave, which is routine.

This is the third officer-involved shooting in the past five months in St. George.
